Nukes

Fri Jul 10, 2009, 5:01 PM
Honestly? What's with hating on them. They're responsible for the creation of Japanese Animation, the decades of fear and tension that launched us to the moon and set the bar for us to hopefully move to a manned landing and base on Mars in the near future.

And hell, Nuclear Power is the only carbon-friendly energy source that we have the technology to implement in any amount to actually make a sizeable difference in Co2 emissions. Natural Gas is a good second. Wind power currently generates less than one half a percent of the energy in the Estados Unidos. Yeah, all those huge fields of turbines everyone gushes about...just a tiny sliver of the pie. Solar power? Well, aside from the expense of photovoltaic panels, they're just not as efficient. Certainly, constructing them will create a great many short term jobs, but they energy generation proportionate to the infrastructure required is...unfortunate. And they only work during the day, if all of that. Just as wind only works when the air moves.

Reliability, long term employment, and reducing carbon NOW require the use of proven technologies until such time as photovoltaic panels or orbital solar stations are economically feasible. If, of course, you buy into Global Warming as a reality. I'm less than convinced that our greenhouse effect isn't holding off an ice age that we're about due for.

I know someone's going to bring up nuclear waste as a problem, so I have to ask you about nations such as France (Yes, FRANCE!) and Japan (The only nation who's been nuked, for those keeping score) do with their nuclear waste since they both generate more than seventy percent of their energy needs in nuclear plants. The French? They burn it in a bigass furnace. Heat so intense that it reduces the spent fuel into plasma that's no longer radioactive. I'm not sure what Japan does with theirs, I'm sort of winging this journal, if it's not obvious by now. Anyhow, given how seismically active their nation is, I rather doubt they bury it.

So, to cap for those who are gonna call this TL;DR. Nuke plants have the technology to be reliable, CLEAN sources of energy. Expensive, but no more so than building solar or wind up from scratch and with guaranteed results. Natural Gas is a close second. It also irks me that no one is seriously looking into geothermal generation as a source of energy. (Hawaii, Alaska? Lookin' at you two here.)

Anyone who doesn't think that reducing our dependence on foreign oil and funding nutjobs like Chavez and Ahmenadede..Ahmadinejaaha..err. The asshole guy in Iran having people shot at in the streets, can all just bite me.

(It's Ahmadinejad, I had to look it up. These sort of things bug me no end.)

Naw. You're sort of missing the point. You don't have to put up the sketch, just credit the original artist.

Your friend should do so to, but since she seems to have put you in this ethically questionable situation, I wonder if she's as much a friend as you think?

so technically If i put a link to the artist she copied, then we can stop arguing and be on good terms? And she isn't like a bffl, shes somone who gives me work becuase I need money occasionally.
